FAQs
Will there be partying?
Yes.
Are there other events outside of the wedding ceremony and reception?
In addition to the wedding ceremony and reception, we are hosting a beach excursion on December 20th and a welcome party on December 21st. We know folks are traveling far and wide for our wedding so we wanted to offer additional opportunities to allow our guests to experience Cartagena outside of the wedding ceremony. Our guests are invited to every event (attendance is optional given everyone’s travel schedules) so please RSVP for each event in advance.
Can I bring a guest?
If your invitation states that you have a +1, yes. If not, please bring your lovely self only and some dancing shoes.
Are children allowed?
We understand that our guests may have young children that will impact their travel plans. Children are more than welcome to our Beach and Welcome Party events. However, our Wedding Day events are not suitable for young children, so we will help coordinate a group nanny service (if desired) to watch your children at the venue. If additional special accommodations are needed, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.
Do I need a passport and/or visa to travel to Colombia?
All non-Colombian citizens require a passport for travel (six months validity is highly recommended). Additionally, our guests with passports from the US, Germany, Norway, or Japan do NOT need a special visa to travel to Colombia. Travelers must also complete Migración Colombia’s online Check-Mig Form within 72 hours of entering or exiting Colombia.
What is the currency in Colombia?
The local currency is the Colombian Peso (COP). For current exchange rates, use the below calculator. We recommend that you exchange some money at your local bank or at the airport when you arrive, but there are also some options near the hotels. There are also ATMs all over and most major credit cards are widely accepted.
Are there Ubers in Cartagena?
Yes, and we recommend Ubers as the primary mode of transportation (especially to and from the airport). That said, all our wedding day events are within walking distance within the Old City and we will provide transportation 1) to and from the Makani Beach Club on Beach Day and 2) between the church and reception venue on Wedding Day.
What else do I need to know about Cartagena?
1. Cartagena is the most visited and safest city in all of Colombia. However, like any international tourist destination, please practice caution and "no de papaya," meaning don't make yourself an easy target for pickpocketing.
2. There are many street vendors who are often pesky and insisting. If you're not good at politely saying "No", then start practicing now. We recommend not to get too overly excited with items the street vendors sell you because before you know it, you will find vultures.
3. Understand your pesos. Get familiar with the paper money. Don't mix up a 2,000 COP w/ a 20,000 COP. It happens to the best of us. Get familiar with your cash and organize it from small to large.
